GOP congressman asks FBI to investigate GOP House member’s claim that FBI agent told him he was under surveillance
CINCINNATI — The Latest on the deadly shooting at the US Capitol (all times local):9:40 a.m.
The House Republican leader of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform says the Capitol Police and the FBI should investigate whether a lawmaker has lied about the type of surveillance they received during his confirmation hearing.
Rep. Joe Barton of Texas says he believes Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., should be fired over allegations of lying to Congress about the FBI’s surveillance of him and his staff.
Barton says the House Oversight and Ethics Committee should investigate what happened to Amash and other House members who were caught in the crossfire of the shooting at Capitol Hill.
Bartel says the incident is being investigated by the FBI and the House Ethics Committee.
Ammash was confirmed as the head of the committee earlier this month, but he faces another House ethics inquiry.
